A Jersey City based Dance Instructor and Choreographer, Neil Fernando has been performing and teaching dance and fitness since 1992. Neil's talent and love for dance & choreography, along with his positive and patient personality, are reflected in his popular Funk Hip-Hop classes and Sweet 16/Cotillion Ballroom Projects taught all over New Jersey and New York.

A respected choreographer, he has worked with major music groups. He choreographed “You can’t stop the music” for the Village People. His work has been showcased by recording artists Ana DeSilver, Astro, Xirena & Doble Impacto. He was also a featured dancer with the Philippine Super Star Nora Aunor and Philippine Independence Day Parade Committee’s favored dancer/choreographer.

In addition, he also started Pure Diversity Performing Arts Ensemble that showcases his modern experimental dances, and Keep On Dancing USA that showcase his Funk, Hip-Hop, Jazz and Ballroom fusion.  After 3 years, we closed the group to concentrate on new projects.

During the late 90’s, he also branched his talent in Musical Theater and TV/Movie Productions. He was an actor, dancer and choreographer on the following movies: The Forgotten Savior, Loose Women with Charlie Sheen, Mister Bird, Taxi Bhaya, Good Day New York (NBC), Regis & Kathie Lee and Dance Vista. He belted his voice drenched with drama and comedy on the off Broadway Musical production of The Chorus Line as Mike and Joseph and His Technicolor Dreamcoat as Benjamin.

For years, He taught Hip-Hop, Jazz and Intensive Study Group B Competition Jazz Funk Fussion at Ms. Huguette’s Broadway Dance and Theatrical Studios of Bayonne. He choreographed dance competitions and Sweet 16/Cotillion projects, both in NY and NJ.

Currently, he is one of the Board of Directors and Dance Instructor at the Jersey City Ballet, located downtown Jersey City, NJ.  He teaches Funk Jazz and Dance Fitness inspired classes to ages 9 and up.  He also choreographs for the Dance Company lead by the Artistic Direction of Judith Elins Palacio, who is the Founder and President of the company.

Neil’s dance philosophy exudes dance fusions of Ballet, Jazz, Tap, Funk, Hip-Hop, Street, Modern, Lyrical, African and Folk dance influences with themes and drama on all of his choreographies. Focusing on performance, style and giving the “Fierce” effect, his choreography embodies fun and emotionally driven shows. His philosophy in teaching is showing his students the passion in dance + fun = feeling great inside.. that's what counts!
